La Paz, capital of Bolivia, is built on steep hills forming a 'bowl'. It's at an elevation of 11,975 ft.
We started in La Paz, in the western part of the country. After visiting the city we went to the countryside to see Tiwanaku, a pre-Colombian ruin. It is one of the most important precursors to the Inca Empire. New excavations were in progress. We traveled to Lake Titicaca situated in the Andes at an elevation of 12,507 ft.
Machu Piccu is next.
